Proud mother

Here's Thu showing off how well her daughter can stand in her bed. At the same time we are teaching Savita a bad habit and are reenforcing it. How is that for some good parenting. You can't but let her do it though when you see her smile.

Dreamer

Savita can just about look outside over the bottom of the screen door. She sat here for 10 min just watching the outside world.

Mosquito Net

The mosquitos are really bad at the moment, so we fabricated a mosquito net for Savita's bed.

Nap Time

We're supposed to take a quick nap, but it looks like Savita had other plans.

Coaster dear!

The standing part is not so tough, it's the holding on to the coasters while you're doing it!

Little Picker-uper

Savita is taking care of those hard to clean places for us. We dunk her in a bucket of water a couple of times during the day and she takes care of the rest.

Sleeping Beauty

She is so cute when she sleeps! Her parents need little breaks like this, because she's in an exploratory phase right now where everything needs to be touched and tasted. On top of that she is mobile and moving 100 miles an hour. No more stepping out of the room for a minute, because it only takes her a few seconds to find something she shouldn't be playing with.

New Old Crib

As you can see we had to lower the crib, because Savita is starting to climb and we're afraid she might be climbing out of her bed soon otherwise. While I was at it I exchanged the old cloth on her crib with a fancy Winnie the Pooh design.

Bath

We usually take showers so playing in the tub was an unusual treat. She drank quite a bit of the water.

Our Bag Lady

Savita decided to drag her bag around this morning. No we did not help she managed to get her arm through the loop and started crawling around. Maybe she thought she needed to do some strength training.

Dash-o-color

Savita in a dash-o-color.

6 month Dr's visit

Went to the Dr. yesterday for Savita's 6 mo. check up. We were late because of our little off island trip. Everything is working, she got 3 shots don't ask me which ones, she weighs 15.8 lbs. (weet niet precies wat dat in kg. is, dat mogen jullie zelf uitrekenen), and she's 26 inches long (66cm).

Travel Log, 2nd installment

Who knew Texas was so much bigger than Saipan? I guess you kinda forget how large Texas is when you are away. We did an awefull lot of driving, Dallas to Waco, Waco to Austin, Austin to Waco, Waco to Houston, Houston to Waco, Waco to Dallas.....I think all in all we spend almost two full days in our rented PT Cruiser. Savita is like her mom and as soon as she is strapped in her seat she falls into a deep sleep.

The flight back to Saipan wasn't much better than the flight over. We departed from Dallas on some ungodly hour. Flew into Memphis, from Memphis to Detroit. We boarded the plane on time in Detroit, but were told we would be delayed for a little because the Captain called in sick. They were waiting for his replacement.....which turned out to take 3 hrs. So we sat on the plane for 3 hrs before the replacement showed up or the original Captain had sobered up enough so they'd let him fly the plane. Because of the delay we missed out flight out of Nagoya. They put us up in the same hotel as last time, gave us meal vouchers again, eventhough all the restaurant had already closed for the day. Managed to find some Rama Noodles at the only convenience store still open, they tasted really good. Savita was nackered after the day of traveling and was out cold as soon as we plopped her on the bed.

Our original flight from Nagoya was a direct flight to Saipan, but the only available seat they had were on a flight to Guam and then from Guam to Saipan. Nagoya to Guam was business class....I can get used to that. Guam to Saipan was in a little crappy prop plane. Finally made it home on Friday afternoon, tired, but happy to be home. It took Savita a couple of minutes to reaquaint herself with the dog and another 3 days to figure out when to sleep and when to play.

Travel Log, 1st installment

Travelling with a baby is not as bad as it sounds!

We left in the morning from Saipan and flew straight to Nagoya. Savita slept most of the way. Arrived in Nagoya around 12. Our plane was set to leave at 2 pm. We boarded and sat on the plane for 2 hrs before being told there was a mechanical problem, the part was being flown to Nagoya and we would not leave until the next morning. We were given food vouchers so we could get some food while NW was trying to sort out the hotel situation. Ever seen 400 people trying to get some food from the only place in the terminal all at once? Not a pretty sight. Finally got us some tucker. By 6:30 we were given vouchers and directions to the hotel. Yep, we had to walk! I don't mind walking but a 15 pound child gets pretty heavy after a while and it was freezing. Savita made 400 friends, smiling at everybody and trying to get them to play with her. She slept while we're waiting at the airport and had her picture taken with a 100 Japanese HS students. At the hotel she enjoyed her freedom by playing on the bed and slept through the night. We brought Benadryl so we could drug her up, but we never used it.

Left early the next day for the long haul from Nagoya to Detroit, 11 and half hrs. They could not get the video to work during the flight, which sucked. Especially when you don't get to sleep much. That seems to be the only drawback of traveling with a small child, you don't get to sleep as much as you'd normally would. Savita was in and out and Thu and I perfected the tag team eating, feeding and changing. For some reason she didn't like the changing table on the plane much, but other than that she never gave a peep until we did a nose dive during the descent. Obviously Savita's ears couldn't keep up with the eaqualization. She managed to have 400 people being concerned about her well being. We all worked up a sweat the last 10 minutes of the flight.

Had a pretty smooth transition to the next plane, our flight from Detroit to Dallas. Savita slept most of the way, no problems with her ears. In all I think we spend something like 36 or 38 hrs traveling and racked up thousands of comped airmiles. Once in Dallas she was a big hit with the whole family and Thu and I would lose track of her once in a while.
